What to Look For

A good quality pear should have a sweet taste, a pleasant aroma, smooth skin, and free from any bruises or mold.

Press the top of the pear near the stem to test for ripeness.  If that spot gives in to pressure, but is not too soft, the pear is optimally ripe to eat.

Ideal Storage

  • -1°C - 0°C
  • 90 - 95% Relative Humidity

Bartlett pears can be stored for up to 3 months

Response to Ethylene

Pears are sensitive to ethylene.  Pears can be treated with ethylene during harvest to ensure uniform ripening.
